Real Chinese Privacy Policy

Real Chinese is an offline-first Mandarin learning application. This policy explains what information the app and the Real Chinese service process, why it is processed, and the choices available to you.
Information processed
- Account information: your email address, sign-in provider identifier, internal account identifier, and session information are processed to create and secure your account.
- Optional cloud-feature content: when you explicitly use cloud translation or title generation, the Chinese text you select, or a limited excerpt of it, is sent to the Real Chinese service and the relevant processing provider to return the requested result. These processing requests and provider outputs are omitted from service usage records and operational logs.
- Security and operations metadata: the service processes app-integrity results and coarse usage information such as the requested feature, timestamp, character or token counts, response status, request identifier, and duration. It does not store raw integrity proofs, credentials, request bodies, learning text, provider output, or raw IP addresses in usage records.
- Account-linked review backup: once your connected account owns the local learning data and cloud services are enabled, reviews, typed answers, recorded review schedules, finalized study time, and the reviewed characters, words, sentences, translations and dependencies needed for recovery are automatically uploaded to that account. Synced history can be restored on another installation or after loss of the local learning database. Backup content is stored separately from usage records and is not included in operational logs or sent to AI providers by the sync service.
- On-device learning data: imported texts, sentences, words, translations, pronunciation recordings and results, typed answers, review history, and settings are stored locally on your device. Pronunciation analysis is performed offline, and audio is not uploaded by Real Chinese.
How information is used
Information is used to authenticate users, provide requested app features, synchronize and recover learning progress, protect the service against fraud and abuse, enforce quotas, diagnose failures, and maintain service security. Real Chinese does not sell personal information and does not use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
Real Chinese uses service providers for hosting, database infrastructure, authentication, app-integrity verification, and the optional cloud features you request. Optional translation content may be processed by Google Cloud Translation, and optional title-generation excerpts may be processed by the configured AI provider. These providers process information on our behalf under their applicable data-protection terms.
Retention
Account information and synced learning history are retained while your account exists, until you explicitly clear synced learning history or delete the account. Service usage records are retained for up to 90 days, rate-limit records for up to seven days after expiry, and expired or consumed integrity challenges for no more than 24 hours. Local learning data remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Collections, unreviewed imports, general preferences and audio are outside review backup.
Your choices and deletion
Cloud translation and title generation are optional and require an in-app choice before content is sent. Review backup runs automatically for the connected account when cloud services are enabled. Settings shows backup status and provides Sync now. Turning off cloud services pauses synchronization; it does not erase the existing backup.
You can delete your backend account in Real Chinese by opening Settings, choosing Delete account, and confirming the deletion. Account deletion removes the account, linked sign-in identities, sessions, entitlements, app-attestation registrations and synced learning history. To clear learning history across all devices, connect to the service and confirm Clear all learning data in Settings. Connected devices apply that deletion when they next synchronize. Clearing device storage or uninstalling the app removes local data while leaving the account backup available for recovery. If you cannot access the app, request deletion at ouspix.contact@gmail.com.
Children
Real Chinese is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.
Security and international processing
We use access controls, encrypted transport, scoped credentials, app-integrity checks, and data-minimizing logs to protect the service. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, subject to their contractual and legal safeguards.
